It seems everyone’s talking about Nickel’s recent surge, and for good reason.

Found: Largest Diamond Mined in More Than a Decade - Lesotho Promise

August 22, miners in the Letseng Mine in Lesotho South Africa unearthed the largest diamond mined since 1993.  The Lesotho Promise, a 603 carat stone, is the 15th largest diamond ever discovered and was sold to South African Sightholder Safdico (South African Diamond Corporation) for $12.36 million.

Nickel near peak on LME

Nickel is breaking away from its three month plateau of $29,900/30,000 a tonne rising to $30,100/30,150 a tonne Wednesday.  It also hit record a record high of $30,250 earlier this week.

“Nickel is getting stronger…I think copper will recover as well and that would strengthen the whole complex,” an analyst in London said.

Synthetic Diamonds to be Graded Starting after January 1, 2007

The GIA (The Gemological Institute of America) will start accepting and grading synthetic diamonds starting January of next year (2007).

 “The final synthetic diamond grading report has now been accepted by stakeholders on all sides of this issue, and is totally consistent with GIA’s high standards of science, public service, education and professionalism.”  - Acting GIA president Donna Baker.
